Timeframe: Hours to several days. Trades preferably closed by end of trading week.
Execution: Quick or immediate execution required.
Preferred instruments: Leveraged, in particular micro or mini futures contracts which trade almost round-the-clock.
For traders and longer term investors with a longer horizon, or only have occasional access to their portfolios.
Timeframe: A few days to several weeks and months.
Execution: Entry levels given a few days in advance of when trades are expected to trigger.
Preferred instruments: Underlying security or options with expiration between three months to a year.
ENTER LONG - Price at which to enter the trade if price is expected to rise.
ENTER SHORT - Price at which to enter the trade if price is expected to fall.
To avoid ambiguity, the terms "buy" and "sell" are avoided. For example, one can either buy a call option in the expectation of higher prices, or sell a put option with the same expectation.
TAKE PROFIT (TP) - Price at which to partially or fully close the trade in order to book profits.
When multiple TP levels are suggested, traders need to decide which ones to use, depending on risk appetite and time horizon. In general, the further out the TP is, the less likely that price will hit the target within any certain timeframe, but will also provide a higher return. For example, TP1 will more likely be reached and in a shorter amount of time from the trade entry than TP2 and so on.
STOP LOSS (SL) - Price level where traders would close the trade at a loss in order to cap their risk exposure
The SL level is set slightly below the Enter Long and above the Enter Short levels.
